Deathstroke Inc #12.......4 Stars

Deathstroke Inc #12 If Ed Brisson is trying to market himself to become the next Green Arrow writer he's doing a pretty good job. I wasn't even aware that he was on Deathstroke Inc, until I decided to check this issue out on the off chance, after hearing that it was good....and it was.  It's a fast paced action packed story that I'm assuming is a flashback from the past? Some Slade fans may be upset that the Green Arrow gets the drop on him, but Ollie is no slouch when it comes to hand to hand combat, and he has arguably the best marksmanship in the DCU (Save maybe Deadshot & Merlyn)  The art is of top notch quality thanks to some great drawings by Dexter Soy. Brisson is an underated writer who has convinced me to pick up a title of a character I would normally not be that interested in, for at least one more issue.  4 Stars out of 5

Detective Comics #1063....4.5 Stars

Detective Comics #1063 I'm generalizing here, but I've always liked Detective Comics a little more than Batman, because although mellower, it has more of a Detective vibe to it (hence the name)  as the stories often revolve around Batman using his investigative and forensic skills to solve unanswered questions, at least historically with the best of writers....and Ram V, well he's currently showing us that he belongs in that category.  The story starts out with Batman visiting a now reformed Harvey Dent, (One of my favourite Batman villains) to discuss a new hidden but emerging threat that appears to be secretly harnessing its power in the shadows of Gotham's underworld, one that Bruce Wayne as Batman is intent on finding out who or what it is, and if DC's November solicitations are any hint, than it is one that is going to be supercool.  I can't tell you how well this is written, but then again I don't want to hype it up either. Expect a slower tempo than

DC Vs Vampires: All out War #2....4.5 Stars

DC Vs Vampires #2 Just a quick review on this one. I'm probably giving it more stars than I should, but whenever DC releases a spin off mini series from the main title, one is always worried about the quality, because more often or not writers or artists who have not fully established themselves are on these titles, but in this issue at least, there is no need for concern at all.  For me, the best DC comics are fun, and showcase a lot of heroes outside of the Trinity, or top 6, and this is what you get here. As a self professed Constantine fan this comic is of course is going to appeal to me as he plays much of the lead here, but it was great to see Mary Marvel smoke Wonder Woman, for as someone who has never had much interest in Mary Marvel, writers Alex Paknadel & Mathew Rosenberg do a really good job of making her likeable, and that's what good writers do. They intrigue your interest with a popular character like Constantine, and than delve into the personas and action

Batman One Bad Day: The Riddler......3.5 Stars

Batman One Hard Day: The Riddler The Riddler is my favourite Batman villain, so if Tom King did something to really upset me (As he often does with comic fans) I would be sure to let you know by screaming at the top of my lungs in a fit of rage, in which in fact he has.....but because this is pretty much an elseworld comic. He is exempt from my rage. So what has he done you may ask??? Well, he has basically transformed the Riddler into Hannibal Lectur. A psychopathic killer on the same level of the Joker, but just with a genius level IQ, or not, depending how you read the story. Now I agree with the Riddler fan camp out there that states they need to make the Riddler more gritty to keep him relevant....but just not to the level Tom King takes him. The comic thus has violent scenes, a good reminder that when I pine for the violent DC comics of my youth...I'm often reminded by Tom king that....err perhaps I don't want it so much. The premise of this story is interesting. What wo

Batman #126......5 Stars

Batman #126 I'm sort of petered out with writing reviews lately (though I appreciate the people who read them) so all I am going to say here is 5 star writing by Chip Zdarsky & 5 star art by Jorge Jimenez & Belen Ortega. This is Batman at it's finest, it's DC's flagship title, and this creative crew is on it for a reason. BUY IT!!!! I can state that with no hesitation.  5 stars out of 5

Dark Crisis: Green Lantern #1.....4 Stars

Image
Dark Crisis: Worlds without a Justice League - Green Lantern 1 This is a good comic, primarily because it has two good writers on it; Phillip Kennedy Johnson (Currently writing Action Comics) & Jeremy Adams (Currently writing the Flash) with decent artists to boot.  The first story written by PKJ, has John Stewart living on a farm world, while his sister is telling tales to her daughter about John Stewart as a Green Lantern hero called the Guardian. In the midst of a story they are interrupted by a distress call from the Green Lanterns, whereby John is scolded by his sister as he promised her he would not cape up a a superhero anymore, and therefore makes it clear that this will be the last time. John thus sports a new costume look and comes to rescue, at one point sporting angel wings to go inline with Stewarts's recent upgrade as a demigod by the source (The Jehovah god of the DC Universe)  It's obvious that this is the classic dream world trap narrative, whereby the vil

Sword of Azrael #1 of 6......4 Stars

Sword of Azrael # 1 It has been a long time coming, but DC's angel of death has returned in a six part mini series, with vigilante Jean Paul Valley once again suiting up to punish sinners by breaking jaws and bones in the Sword of Azrael...or does he, because this story has an interesting and unexpected plot twist to it, in which if I elaborate further, I will most certainly be putting out a spoiler.  Hiding out in a monastery located somewhere off the Aegean Sea, Jean Paul Valley has fled Gotham City in order to make amends with his conscious after implementing a brutally violent regime as Gotham City's number one vigilante, while Bruce Wayne was incapacitated.(A warning to future superheroes not to allow your protege to be a test tube bay from the order of St Dumas with an uncontrollable rage issue ) I am assuming that DC is sticking to the original timeline here, whereby Jean Paul eventually leaves Gotham City to find himself and his origins in Europe, which therefore event
