Batman Urban Legends #15......1 Star

Image
Batman Urban Legends #15......1 Star There are some people out who like to read bad comics to prove a political point in this ongoing bs culture war that has infected comics, but not I, nevertheless to give you an idea of how bad this writing is, I'm going to state the following.... 1) Zatanna & Constantine are two of my favourite characters, but Vita Ayala's writing is so unmemorable that after reading issue 13, I totally forgot about issue 14, before grabbing this.  2) Issue #14 had another one of my favourite characters in a back story (The Question) and as Vic Sage has to share the spotlight with the other Question these days, he gets so little exposure as it is....it goes to show how bad the writing was that I forgot about issue #14, which actually had a really good Question/Batman backstory, despite an unreadable Zatanna headliner.  3) As for Issue #15; despite having two of my favourite characters, I literally could not read through the whole story.....that is how

SHADOW WAR ZONE #1......3 Stars

SHADOW WAR ZONE #1 So two of my favourite heroines showed up in Batman comics this month, and in a world of shrinking comic titles outside of the trinity, I'll take what I can get....which is not a lot these days. The headliner of Batman Shadow War Zone is therefore non other than Black Canary, and even though I don't think Joshua Williamson's forte is writing street fighting heroes, I am happy to at least have a decent writer on Black Canary. The story is okay, but short.  The rest of  the comic isn't really worth the read unless your into Talia Ghul & Tynion Batman characters. I didn't bother to read it to be honest, but I did notice that Ed Brisson, the guy who had a decent Ghost Rider run awhile back over at Marvel, is on the book. Man, imagine writing Ghost Rider and than being contracted to have to write Tynion's shitty Batman creations, like Clownhunter & Ghostmaker. Brutal! At least throw the guy a JLD or Constantine title.  I'm not panning

Batman/Superman World's Finest #3....4 Stars

Image
Batman/Superman  World's Finest #3 I've already written two reviews raving about how good this series is so far, so I'll make this one brief.  Mark Waid has been on the top of his game for this series, and this comic has a little bit of everything for the DC fan. The two most prominent members of the trinity (Batman/Superman), team heroes (The Doom Patrol) Teen heroes (Robin & Supergirl) and in this issue, members of the JLA. In a marketplace where DC has shifted so heavily into Batman that the rest of the DCU is being forced into limbo, the appearance of the Doom Patrol has been a welcome addition to this comic, because that is what I love about DC, not the trinity, but the plethora of obscure & interesting heroes that seems to dwarf Marvel Comics.  I would give this 5 stars like the first two issues, but for two things. Unless I missed it in issue 2, the story doesn't really explain how Robin & Supergirl are able to communicate with the ancient guardians

Action Comics # 1042.....4 Stars

Action Comics # 1042.....4 Stars Every now and then you pick an issue out of the blue, and feel like you've just walked into something epic, and this is how I felt after reading Action Comics #1042.  I'll be honest with you, I'm not the biggest fan of the big blue boy scout as I tend to like heroes with a little more grit (Wolverine, Constantine...you get the picture) , but you can't help but appreciate what Clark Kent symbolizes; namely,  the best side of our humanity, so when I saw a comic cover as cool looking as the one above I thought....I think I'll buy this.  And, I'm glad I did, because Philip Kennedy Johnson's writing was more than enjoyable, as I found myself walking into part 7 of an epic storyline involving Mongul, which is cool in itself. I'm not giving it 5 stars, as the plotline (hero stranded on a villains planet, imprisoned and starts a slave revolt) has been rehashed a thousand times, but Phillips does it in such a way that keeps you

Teen Titans Academy #14....3 stars (not as bad as everyone says)

Image
Teen Titans Academy #14....3 Stars The series has been cancelled and it's getting panned left and right on websites, as well as you tube and comic fan forums, so although I am tempted to give it 3.5 stars on the issue alone, I'm kind of shying on the three star side, as I don't really know what it is that's upsetting people so much, but after reading it, I've got an idea.  To my knowledge there is no ongoing regular Titans series at the moment, which means long time fans of the Titans are watching Dick, Donna, Victor, Roy, Raven ect take a back seat to the junior heroes. In short, DC is once again not giving the customers what they want, thus we have a Titans series that appears to be pretty much Young Justice (I'm speculating here, I haven't been following the comic)  I think a Young Justice ongoing series is great, but in all honesty, you have to have a regular Titans series running separately at the same time or Titans fans or going to get PO'd, as t
