Poison Ivy #2....4 Stars

 Poison Ivy #2

First off, seductive cover art. That is worth the price of the comic on it's own, unfortunately Poison Ivy is the last woman in the DCU you would want to fall in love with. Fatal attraction to say the least.

G Willow Wilson is a very good writer. How do I know? Because she can keep you captivated throughout the whole story with limited action, and for me that is a tell tale sign that someone has talent.

The thing I love about this series so far is that you really start to ponder the psychologically behind Poison Ivy's insanity. A psychopath or sociopath,  by definition, is someone who is incapable of feeling empathy towards another person. That is not Poison Ivy, as she has shown deep feelings towards Harley Quinn in her relationship that shows that she sees her as more than just an object. (Though in the broad sense they would both be considered psychos) She of course also has a deep loving affection of plants, which leads me pondering (or Willow Wilson has me pondering) what then lies behind Poison Ivy's insanity?

The story had me thinking of Adolf Hitler. He was most likely psychologically imbalanced, but not a sociopath. He loved his country, the German people and his wife Eva Brown, but he was also man driven by hate, and the same psychological or perhaps genetic mistrust that humans have towards those who look and act different. In short, the driving force behind humankinds racism and xenophobia that has resulted in the most atrocious genocides in history.

Hitler oddly enough was vegan and advocate of animal rights, this issue shows that Poison Ivy is not, but she is a lover of plants,  and her psychology does have something in common with Hitler and other totalitarian mass murders. She feels an over protective affection to plants, and is willing to commit genocide to protect them. Adolf Hitler had the same over protective affection towards his Germanic culture which he felt was being destroyed by industrialization by those of Jewish heritage, an over protectiveness that led him towards the hatred of the other and genocide. Poison Ivy feels that same hatred to humanity.

Anyways I completely digressed, but that is how good this comic is, Willow Wilson had me pondering the psychology behind Poison Ivy's hatred all night.
